Positive signs for the Bombers tonight at training with Matthew Lloyd running laps and James Hird participating in training wearing a protective helmet. Still wearing the arm sling, Lloyd looked quite agile as he ran laps for the first time since injuring his right ring finger in the Round 6 match against Fremantle. As reported first on the BomberLand site, Hird wore a protective helmet for the first time this afternoon to protect the facial fractures he sustained four weeks ago in the match against Fremantle. All-Australian full-back Dustin Fletcher missed training and will have a MRI scan tonight on his right adductor muscle as a precautionary measure.

We caught up with Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy at training and this is what he had to say:
Q. Have you spoken to Hird about having to wear a helmet?
A. No I haven't spoken to him about it at all. It is such a personal issue.

Q. You mentioned last week that there was some concern about Hird participating in skills work...
A. You have to be careful - I think that is something that concerns all coaches in all sports at the present time. If it doesn't it should.

Q. Do you think the Round 13 comeback could be brought forward a week or two?
A. I doubt it. I haven't considered that all. I think it best he wait it out until after the break. Hirdy is Hirdy and if he proves himself to get up well that is a pretty good effort by him. We haven't thought that much ahead really. The most important thing is that he is well.

Q. Is he pushing for an early return do you think?
A. I really don't know - I haven't spoken to him about it. I haven't really been thinking about Hirdy at the moment, I am trying to develop the young blokes and give them an opportunity from a selection point of view.

Q. Once he gets passed fit, how much of a concern is it to you?
A. It is a normal welfare concern really - we actually don't even discuss Hird at selection at the moment to be quite honest. Our main concern at the moment is getting ready for a big game against Port Power - when Hird becomes available we will be into it.
