Essendon recorded its first win for the season today against a competitive Melbourne side. Despite getting off to a slow start Essendon turned its form around to win by a convincing 37-points. Essendon fans saw a committed, skillful and disciplined outfit today at the MCG who answered every challenge that Melbourne mounted. Essendon had 11 individual goal kickers today – one of the many positives to come out of the match.
Essendon head into tomorrow's match against Melbourne with close to a full strength line-up with the exception of Mark Bolton out with suspension and Aaron Henneman. Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy revealed at training this afternoon that Henneman would be sidelined for a further four to five weeks with a nerve problem in his groin. ""I have always thought that with the inclusion of Henneman it is close to our best side. We probably have another two or three kids we want to bring into the team soon as well,"" Sheedy said.
