James Hird and Scott Lucas joined their team-mates to make two young men extremely happy yesterday.

Four-year-old Lucas James Williamson (named after Scott Lucas and James Hird) and 18-year-old James Taylor were given a behind the scenes tour of the home of the Bombers, Windy Hill. The boys also had the chance to get up close and personal with their favourite Essendon stars.

Both young men have launched a courageous fight against leukaemia and their visit to the club further reiterated to the playing group just how important Friday night’s Clash for Cancer is in raising vital funds for cancer research.

Essendon Football Club will incorporate a yellow armband into their Guernsey for the match against Melbourne as a show of honour and respect for all men facing cancer.

The club is also encouraging all supporters to buy a yellow armband from one of the many Cancer Council fund-raising volunteers at Friday night’s match and wear it with pride as you help support the Cancer Council’s vital research, education and support services.
