Over 300 VFL players fought for their country at either the first or second world war. They left their families, friends, jobs and the sport they loved to serve their country. Some never returned. Of the 115 AFL/ VFL players that have died in conflict, 15 have been Essendon players. Anzac Day is a day to remember the courageous efforts of these men. The Essendon Football club would like to pay tribute to its fallen players and all those who stood by their side.

Dean Rioli is back in the senior line-up after Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy announced earlier today that he will play in the blockbuster Anzac Day clash. After returning from the Northern Territory on personal leave three weeks ago - Rioli has played the last two matches in the VFL side. Sheedy also revealed that he would not bring a first game player in for the match. Sheedy ruled star centre-half forward Scott Lucas out of tomorrow's match. Lucas has missed the past three games with a thigh injury and is expected to return for the Bombers round six match. Click below to find out what else Sheeds had to say.
