It is never easy to kick a goal in a game of AFL football, even when you play up forward and your job is to do just that week in, week out. Matthew Lloyd has done just that in his past 63 matches and if he can kick a goal against Geelong this weekend he will equal the club record of 64 set by John Coleman. It will be a unique achievement for Lloyd who at just 24 years of age looks set to re-write the goal-kicking record books at this club.

Coleman managed a goal in every match he played between Round 1, 1949 and Round 9, 1952. Lloyd’s current sequence began in Round 16, 1999 and he has maintained his record this season despite missing seven weeks with injury. Although those who were aware of the record might have been getting a little concerned when he was still without a goal midway through the last quarter of last week’s match against the Eagles. A spectacular one-handed mark and goal late in the match enabled him to keep his sequence in tact.

Lloyd however still has a long way to go if he is to reach the AFL record milestone of 120, created by Peter McKenna when he played at Collingwood. Here is the top 15:
