This week’s poll again calls on fans to crystal-ball gaze, asking which Bomber player they think is most likely to win the 2009 NAB Rising Star award?

Almost 70% of fans picked Michael Hurley in last week’s poll as the Essendon player who will debut first in the 2009 home-and-away season.

The next most likely was David Zaharakis with 13.42% from Brent Prismall (6.29%), Michael Still (3.77%), Tyson Slattery (3.56%) and ‘other’ (3.35%).

Here are some of the comments from that poll:

Joseph Attard from Taylors Hill says: Michael is the obvious choice. He has been spoken highly of and can kick with both feet, I am really interested to see him play.

Julius Fisher from Melbourne says: I would hope that Hayden Skipworth would be our first recruit to debut this season! Why else would he have been recruited.

Jan Di Pietro from USA says: Hurley should play every game this year. His body is ready for AFL Football by the looks of it. So why not get him in there for the succession plan? He'll be great. Go dons 09.

James Cameron from Victoria says: It's really only between Zaharakis and Hurley, Slatts (Tyson) has a finger problen and Prismall has his ACL so I reckon Hurley, because we need another big body in the backline.

Franky from Fandy says: Hurley because we need to give him some time to get used to the back line so that Fletch retires he can take over.

Stargazer from St Kilda, Vic says: Were those 11 voters serious when they voted for Prismall ? As much as we'd like to see it, that boy has serious rehab to do before he can even imagine playing again. Second half of the season at the earliest. Hurley will play round one (fingers crossed).

Shano from WA says: Maybe Hayden Skipworth and Hurley in the same game but ... What about J.Hird? I know he's gone... but bring him back.

Shirley Price from Epping - Vic says: Good luck to all the new recruits and I hope you all settle in nicely and do well for our club.

Grant B from Mentone/Vic/Australia says: Michael Hurley is a guarantee (unless he gets injured) already has the build for a ready made backman at 18. Absolute shoe in!!!

Bomber from Vic says: Don't under estimate Michael Still. I've played against him when he played with Eltham and watched him develop. If he keeps improving at the same rate as he has over the past two years I recon he could wizz past the other draftees and debut first!
