Essendon re-drafted Steve Alessio with its final selection at todays National Draft. Alessio was selected at pick 67 in Round 5. Essendon officially drafted Jobe Watson in the third round of the draft under the Father/Son rule. Former Essendon premiership player Gary Moorcroft was drafted by Melbourne in the third round at pick 39.

Watson and Alessio follow Essendon's first four selections - Jason Laycock (selection 10 from the Tassie Mariners), Jason Winderlich (selection 11 from the Gippsland Power), Darren Walsh (selection 27 from Sandringham Dragons)and Tristan Cartledge (selection 28 from North Ballarat Rebels).

Laycock is 199cm tall and has played most of his football in the ruck and up forward. He is a key position player and is an excellent mark. He shows great promise.

Winderlich is a speedy wingman and who is also very hard at the football. At 184cm tall, he will give the Bombers more options in the mid-field.

Walsh is a quick mid-fielder with good evasive skills. He also uses the ball well, but his leg speed is his most important asset.

Cartledge, at 197cm, plays most of his football in the ruck and is renowned for his excellent leap. He can also play up forward and at 17 years old he is a long-term prospect for the Bombers.

Watson is a tough in and under on-baller. Built similarly to his champion father Tim, he looks a great chance of playing senior football in his first season.
