It was love at first sight for one speedy Italian to another at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit earlier this week. Essendon AFL star Joe Misiti got behind the wheel of an historic Alfa Romeo 1750 in pit lane ahead of next week’s Foster’s Australian Grand Prix. The six-cylinder supercharged vintage machine was one of two cars Alfa Romeo sent to Africa in 1930 to be raced by legendary driver Nuvolari. It was left in Tripoli with a cousin of Nuvolari’s and was raced extensively in South Africa before being brought to Australia in 1972.

It is one of over 40 entries in the Tattersall’s Historic Demonstrations at the Grand Prix, which showcase a collection of the world’s most famous sporting and race cars from the pre-war era. The historic Alfa Romeo is owned by Terry Valmorbida.

The Tattersall’s Historic cars appear on track every day of the Grand Prix from Thursday, March 4 to Sunday, March 7.
