Here’s some good news for Essendon supporters. In Round 1 2002, Collingwood lost to Richmond by 37 points, Port Adelaide lost to the Kangaroos by 10 points while Brisbane scored an unconvincing 23-point over Sydney. At the end of the home and away season Port Adelaide was on top of the AFL ladder. Brisbane and Collingwood went on to play in the Grand Final. So let’s put Round 1 of 2003 in perspective. The rest of the season starts Saturday.
The Victorian Football League season kicks off this weekend and the Bendigo Bombers face Sandringham this Sunday. It is the first official appearance for the Bendigo Bombers who formed at the end of last season when the Bendigo Diggers and the Essendon VFL side amalgamated. There will be some familiar faces playing for the Bendigo Bombers including - Cory McGrath, Robert Forster-Knight, Shane Harvey and Andrew Welsh. All will be keen to perform well and push for senior selection next week.
