In partnership with the Bendigo Bank and the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation, Pencil O’Reilly is a ‘purpose built’ novel created to foster an interest in primary school aged children to improve their literacy skills and further stimulate their interest in reading.
Pencil O’Reilly traces the journey of a young boy from country Victoria to the elite of Australian Rules Football and the Essendon Football Club.
Essendon stars Patrick Ryder and Scott Gumbleton recently presented copies of the novel at Broadmeadow Valley and St Raphael’s Primary Schools to promote and encourage children of all ages to actively engage in reading.
The novel is distributed through local branches of the Bendigo Bank to schools in the wider community and over 6000 copies of the book have been issued this year.
