Following Scott Camporeale's visit to a specialist yesterday afternoon, Essendon today confirmed that the veteran midfielder has not done any major damage to the patella tendon in his right knee.
Club doctor Bruce Reid said that Camporeale has swelling (fluid) under the patella tendon which is expected to settle over the next couple of weeks.
""The main risk is that the injury will impact on his kicking,"" Dr Reid said.
""He will be placed on a modified training program which we will increase as he responds to treatment.
""But the good news is that the injury is not as bad as first feared and, with some luck, he could be back playing in a few weeks.""
Camporeale strained his patella tendon in the second quarter of his 250th game played against the Western Bulldogs at The Dome on Saturday night.
Last week the former Carlton premiership player spoke of his desire to continue playing for Essendon next season and said he is confident the developing Bombers can make a grand final in the near future.
Essendon midfielder Scott Camporeale could be available to play sooner than expected with his injured knee not as bad as first thought. There were grave fears that his season could be over after he strained his patella tendon on Saturday night and was unable to play out the game.
