Essendon Football Club can announce Kevin Sheedy and Sean Wellman have been elected as the successful candidates following the conclusion of the 2020 Board Election.

Club legends Sheedy and Wellman will serve three-year terms following their successful campaigns.

Over 8,000 votes were cast in this year’s election, representing the largest ever participation from members in an Essendon Board Election.

Wellman was first elected to the Board in December 2017. He has been involved in the AFL industry for over 20 years as a coach (assistant) and player.

An Essendon life member, he played 212 AFL games and was part of the club’s 2000 premiership team. More recently, Wellman was a partner in the Waterside Group, which owned and operated hotels in Melbourne from 2004 to 2017. Sean currently runs his own mortgage broker business Wellman Finance.

In September 2020, the club announced that Australian Football legend Sheedy would replace outgoing director Katie Lio at a Board meeting on October 15. The four-time Essendon premiership coach and AFL Hall of Fame Legend coached the Bombers from 1981 to 2007.

With the closing of the ballot at 5pm on Friday, December 11, the results were formally declared by the club’s Returning Officer, Bruce Walmsley QC.

The election was independently conducted by CorpVote Pty Ltd.

The results will be formally announced at the club’s upcoming AGM to be held virtually on Tuesday, December 15 at 6:30pm.
