Football fans' attention now turns to the 2008 Grand Final so, this week, we ask Essendon supporters who they think is most likely to win the 2008 Norm Smith Medal?
Three players from Hawthorn and Geelong have been selected.
In last week's poll we asked: Which modern day team would win? Essendon (2000) received over 75% of the vote with Geelong (2007/08) next best with almost 20%. The dominant Brisbane team (2001/02/03) was third with just 3.49%.
Joseph from Victoria says: I know this is a Bomber web site. But we (bombers 2000) would have not beaten Geelong. The game has evolved... Geelong would be to quick for us.
Malcolm Milgate from Melbourne says: As good as we were in 2000, we should of really won at least two premerships if not three 99,00,01. Geelong 07/08 would be greater than Ess of 2000, their midfield would of destroyed ours. Why haven't the cats been broken up with the Salary cap like Ess did, most of their players have signed on till 2010!
Nathan Smith from Mosman, NSW says: Looks like most people have the red and black blinkers on, judging on the results of the poll so far. Fair enough too, I reckon it's a close call between the cats and the 2000 dons. The bombers had a much better forward line, but I reckon the cats midfield is a shade or two above any other team in that list. Defense sits on a par. Dons for me, cos they had the sneaky Barnesy hiding behind goal posts trying to steal a goal or two.
Nicole Watson from Torquay says: Are you guys serious about this question? What else are we die-hards going to vote for but the mighty Bombers!
Matt Waugh from Geelong says: If Geelong goes all the way this year I would put them above Essendon. Essendon should have won 3 flags, 1999 was dissapointing and 2001 we had to many injured players in team. For one single year 2000 was awesome but Geelong may top it this year. Brisbane were a great unit but had a few advantages with plyer retention payments that may have extended their run.
Rob from Melbourne says: The 2000 Essendon side had alot of players who were in their prime. Too many so called ""experts"" today judge that side on how some players are doing now. At their best this team was unbeatable and with a good run on injuries would have easily won 3 premierships in a row.
Andrew from Altona Meadows says: I'm saying the 2000 Essendon squad over this years Geelong team because the Bombers in 2000 had more experience at the time. Geelong is cocky too. Those Dons had class. The Cats could learn something from them. It's not all about the on-field stuff.
Ben Mihail from Bendigo, VIC says: The 2000 Essendon team would win simply because they had a point to prove after the devastation of 1999, absolute ruthless aggression !
