Essendon veteran Dustin Fletcher feels as fresh as he ever has despite playing in his twentieth season in the AFL this year.
Fletcher, who has played 348 games for Essendon since debuting in 1993 said his passion to play has not waned.
“I think it’s the love of the game and wanting to get Essendon back up to the top, see them play finals and do good things (that keeps me playing),” Fletcher said.
“I like the camaraderie of having 40 blokes that you go down to training with every day and they are all different types of people.”
The 36-year-old said while he has never enjoyed pre-season training it is all worth it once the season begins.
“Sometimes I get tested a bit in pre-season when you are going on long runs and this sort of stuff but once the actual games start I’m cherry ripe to get out there and get into it,” Fletcher told SEN radio.
“To play footy with forty of your mates and work with them every day spending a fair bit of time with them it’s a good job.”
Fletcher is due to play his 350th game in round three against the Gold Coast.
