BENDIGO BOMBERS' DRAW RELEASED
The Bendigo Bombers will play two home matches at Windy Hill in season 2003. And the good news for Bombers supporters is their 2003 Essendon membership card will give them entry to all of the Bendigo Bombers home games. The VFL fixture was released late last week and 2002 VFL team manager Blair Hartley said the club was pleased with the draw overall.
“There are no clashes with the Essendon senior games, so it gives our supporters the opportunity to watch all the Bendigo Bombers matches,” Hartley said.
The three VFL mergers – Essendon and Bendigo, Carlton and Northern Bullants and Port Melbourne and Murray Kangaroos – has resulted in only 13 teams competing in the VFL competition. According to Hartley the smaller competition makes way for a stronger league. “The new format has three byes which is a good opportunity to rest players, especially our younger guys. AFL/VFL football can be very demanding on their bodies in their first season,” Hartley said.
Another exciting development is the introduction of a night match at York Park in Tasmania. In a first for the Bendigo Bombers, they will take on Tasmania under lights on Saturday 17th May.
This week's Orange Poll asked Essendon supporters whether Jobe Watson should be given his father's famous number 32. The majority of BomberLand users said yes (77%) but there was also quite a significant vote (23%) that felt he should be given another number. A vote possibly generated by the feeling that it would put too much pressure on the promising midfielder. This week we ask who should play centre half forward in 2003?
