Inaccurate kicking at goal has again cost the Bendigo Bombers any chance of victory going down 10.17 (77) to the Northern Bullants 14.8 (92) on Saturday.

It was a day when there were few standouts, according to Bendigo Coach Matthew Knights, who named Simon Rosa, in his 100th game, rookie listed Health Hocking and Kepler Bradley as best players.

""Heath and Simon did a tremendous amount of midfield work winning the ball and running hard through the lines,"" he said.

""Kepler was best in the air taking 13 marks on the day in the ruck and as a key forward.""

Knights said Bachar Houli was solid and showed good leg speed and was building towards some good performances.

""There are still some areas we need to work on but he is keen to learn and he is heading in the right direction,"" he said.

A major positive to come out of the game was the continued improvement of key position player Scott Gumbleton who was the 2nd overall pick in the 2006 draft.

Knights has increased Gumbleton's playing time from 60 minutes two weeks ago to 90 minutes this weekend and says he is getting a feel for the speed of the game.

""He worked hard and his match fitness is getting better and I think he is about to hit some good form,"" he said.
