Hardingham, Jenkins and Slattery were amongst the players from the Essendon Football Club, APC and Melbourne Vixens netball team mixing in with students, making the journey from Windy Hill to nearby Caroline Springs College (Brookside Campus) and Essendon Keilor College (Niddrie Campus).
Working with students of all ages, the trio chatted to them about their various support networks and long term health initiatives, before heading out to the playground for a skills session.
Essendon’s ‘On the Ball’ program is a school-based health promotion initiative that uses elite athletes as role models in the delivery of a resiliency program with the key objectives including raising vital awareness amongst participants of the support networks available to them, as well as developing coping strategies, problem-solving and decision making skills of participants.
The initiative is delivered by the Bill Hutchison Foundation, with the support of the APC, Netball Victoria and the Bendigo Bank Strathmore Branch.
