Essendon's round 15 clash with Melbourne will mark its fifth annual Tackling Childhood Cancer game in support of long-standing charity partner Challenge.

The Bombers will proudly wear the Challenge logo on the front of their guernsey which also features the yellow armband, inspired by former premiership player and cancer survivor Adam Ramanauskas.

Challenge has been Essendon’s charity partner for over 20 years. A not-for-profit organisation, it provides daily support for children and families living with cancer or a life-threatening blood disorder from the time of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.

Challenge kids sketch their heroes

Ahead of our annual Tackling Childhood Cancer game, we had the Challenge kids sketch the players, with their drawings used for the team selection announcement.

The Bombers have committed one game each season since 2017 to Challenge.

In a non-COVID world, the game would normally see 22 Challenge kids run out on to the ground, hand-in-hand with their AFL superheroes.

Saturday night's edition will still involve a pre-game interaction between the players and kids, be it virtually or in person.
