The Bombers will be without captain Dyson Heppell for Friday night’s clash against Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.

Scans on Tuesday evening revealed the 29-year-old had sustained a fracture to his thumb, with Heppell having undergone successful surgery to repair it.

General manager of football Josh Mahoney said the club was hopeful Heppell would miss only a week of football.

“Dyson sustained the injury during our clash against Geelong on Friday night, but played out the remainder of the game,” Mahoney said.

"We decided early in the week to scan this thumb to look at the full extent of the injury. Based on the scan, it was decided that surgery was the best option and that took place this morning.

“We’re hopeful Dyson will only be sidelined for the next week, but we will know more upon his recovery over the coming days.”
