General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton today confirmed Pears,
who had surgery on his foot during the pre-season, could make a return to the VFL on Saturday for the Bendigo Bombers pending selection and fitness tests.
“They had a VFL training session this morning, and the coach was extremely happy with Tayte.”
“From a medical side of things, the doctors and the surgeons are telling us that his foot is really stable and everything is quite positive at the moment. Now it’s about trying to get him up to a fitness level where he can perform,” he said.
“While he has to get through the rest of training this week, there is a chance he could return for the VFL on Saturday.”
Hamilton said captain Jobe Watson (hamstring) and Michael Hurley (calf) would be tested and reassessed during the course of the week, but were progressing well in their recovery programs.
“Jobe is going along well, he is in the gym and working hard with his rehab. It really is a wait and see as to whether he will be available for the Melbourne game, but we certainly hope so.”
“The same applies with Michael Hurley. They are both in the same boat and we’d love to have them back out there but we’re not going to take any risks and the decisions will be made next week,” Hamilton said.

Leroy Jetta, who booted three majors for the Bombers in their loss to Richmond, had plastic surgery on his mouth after sustaining a heavy knock during Saturday night’s game.
“He had some plastic surgery on the inside of his mouth and it is all fine and it won’t interrupt anything in terms of training or playing, but he is fine.”
In pleasing news for the Club, 21-year-old Darcy Daniher, who has been limited at a senior level through injury, returned to the VFL on the weekend.
“It’s good news for Darcy. He played half a game of football and he played well in that half, and it’s really pleasing just to see him out there on the field. The great news for him is that he pulled up really well today, which is a good start,” Hamilton said.
“While we take it one week at a time, we’re really hopefully we can get some good footy out of Darcy in the rest of the year,"" he said.
