Essendon is set to receive a huge boost with dynamic midfielders Jye Caldwell and Dylan Shiel at the "end stage" of their rehab process from hamstring and knee injuries respectively.

Caldwell and Shiel haven’t featured in the red and black since round two and are eyeing off chances of returning in the next couple of weeks.

Head of high performance Sean Murphy said Caldwell was on the cusp of returning to full skills training and will potentially be available for selection in the next couple of matches.

“Jye is in a similar spot (to Dylan Shiel), he’s in that end stage of that hamstring rehab process,” Murphy told Dons Digital's Liberty Financial Performance Update.

“He’s ticking off all the markers and will integrate into full skills next week and we’ll see him (potentially) the next couple of games.”

After declaring he was on the verge of being ready to play, Shiel’s progress has been confirmed by Murphy.

The 28-year-old will continue full training and look to push his case of returning via the VFL or AFL.

“’Dyl’ is progressing really well,” Murphy said.

“He’s getting to that end stage of his rehab process and he’s in full skills now and we’ll build him up over the next couple of sessions.”

Key forward Harrison Jones will treat his newly diagnosed foot stress injury with caution, having being withdrawn from Sunday's win over North Melbourne.

The 20-year-old will be rested over the next couple of weeks to make a proper decision on the best course of treatment.

“’Jonesy’ presented after main training last week with a little bit of foot awareness,” Murphy said.

“The decision was to go and get a scan and it showed a little bit of bone edema and the decision was to pull him out of the game.

“We’ll just manage him over the weeks conservatively and assess him from there.”

Murphy also touched on injury updates to David Zaharakis and Andrew McGrath, while also highlighting a fantastic running effort from debutant Sam Durham.
