Essendon will hold a ‘closed’ 2009 intra club practice match at Whitten Oval on Friday 6th February.

This will be the first full-scale intra club game Essendon has held this pre-season and it will be played over four 20-minute quarters.

Football operations manager, Paul Hamilton, said the public, unfortunately, cannot attend because Whitten Oval is still a construction site.

“This is not ideal for our fans who would no doubt be looking forward to seeing the guys in action but, in the end, it is the best option available to the club,"" he said.

“We had to find a quality ground that didn’t have cricket being played on it the following day. We also wanted to play our intra club match one week before our first NAB Cup game in Darwin.

“For these reasons we were very limited in our options and the Western Oval works well for us apart from the fact that fans will not be able to attend.”

A highlights package of the intra club practice match will be shown on Bomber.tv

Hamilton said media are welcome to report on the game but will need to be accredited (details to be advised soon).
