The Bendigo Bombers will enter the 2010 VFL season full of confidence with big name players Michael Hurley and Brent Prismall selected to play against the Northern Bullants tomorrow.
The game, which will take place at Visy Park at 2pm, comes after Bendigo decisively beat the Casey Scorpions by 64-points in their last practice match two weeks ago at Casey Fields.
Coach Shannon Grant said that Hurley - who cannot play for the senior team under a club imposed suspension - has been training well and should be a key target after kicking three goals in the last practice match.
“The way he goes about training during the week is first class, so he’s given himself a great preparation, and as we’ve seen over the last couple of weeks he’s had some pretty solid hit-outs with the VFL team as well,” Grant said.
“He’ll play pretty hard and hopefully put himself up for senior selection next week.”
Bendigo will boast an excellent full-forward line of Alwyn Davey, Jay Neagle and Ben Howlett.
“The way they’ve trained this week has been really good .. we’re looking for them to play strong roles again for us and hopefully they can contribute tomorrow,” Grant said.
Although Bendigo has had a promisingly pre-season, Grant said that the real test for the side would come tomorrow.
“The Bullants are a good side and played off in the Grand Final last year and their pre-season form has been just as good as ours, so we’re expecting a tough hit-out,” he said.
“We have a good mix of players this week with the Essendon listed guys and the Bendigo boys - I think they’re going to complement one another pretty well so hopefully we can get off to a good start.
