""The blood has drained from the bottom of his chest, which was causing him the discomfort on the weekend. He ran laps yesterday and was not in any pain,"" he said.
""He is also able to do ball work – kicking, marking and handballing, but it is too early for him to being doing any sort of physical or contact work.""
Hird was on the training track for 40 minutes this afternoon before jogging inside when the team commenced contesting work.
Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy said it is morale boosting for the team that Hird is back on the track. ""It’s really pleasing to see that he has come back. He’s gone through a fair bit the boy.""
The team will travel to Perth this evening in preparation for Friday night’s clash against West Coast. Sheedy could not confirm if Hird would be making the trip across with the team. ""We’ve left that up to him. He may have other things he might have to do and attend,"" Sheedy said.
Hird's Heroics
Essendon champion James Hird is without doubt one of the best players to pull on the red and black jumper. He has won countless awards and received many accolades over his 12-year career at Windy Hill. Last Saturday against Richmond at the MCG Hird achieved another milestone when he played his 200th game.
To celebrate Hird's 200-game milestone, the Engine Room has put together a 25-minute documentary tracing the 200-game career of one of the club's greatest players. The documentary reflects on the highs and lows of Hird's career and catches up with the man himself, coaching staff and his teammates about a career that ranks as highly as any at Essendon Football Club.
