Lovett Murray said the low life expectancy among the Australian indigenous community was a concern.

“I’d like to see more of a focus on indigenous health,” Lovett Murray said.

“Not many people know but indigenous people (in Australia) have the worst life expectancy compared to all other indigenous people in the world.

“I have a lot of family members who are dying in their 40’s and 50’s and it is something I would like to see the AFL do a bit more on.”

Lovett-Murray said indigenous health was an extremely important issue which needs to be addressed.

“We live in such a wealthy country and we shouldn’t have community people living in indigenous communities in second world conditions,” he said.

“The focus should be on indigenous health being a main priority.”

The 29-year-old said it would once again be an honour to play in the annual Dreamtime at the ‘G game against Richmond on Saturday night.

“They had a good win on the weekend and they’re playing some good football,” he said.

“It’s always a big game and I’ve always been proud to play in it. What the AFL’s done for indigenous people in terms of promoting the game has been really good.”
