Essendon chairman Graeme McMahon today called on Essendon supporters to flock to the MCG this weekend and make this Friday night the biggest home game of the year for the Kangaroos.

“Despite everything reported in the Herald-Sun article headlined - 'ALL OF US ARE IN TROUBLE' - the crux of what I said was that all clubs need support through the gate,” McMahon said. “Members and supporters in general need to get to the football to ensure clubs survive and this weekend is an opportunity for Essendon people to provide some support,” McMahon said.

“It is something that this club and its fans can do to try and support a fellow Victorian club. As I have said countless times before, we at Essendon support the 16-team national competition, inclusive of 10 Victorian clubs, and want all clubs to survive. I’m certain all our supporters feel the same way and they can do their bit this Friday night.

“Obviously once the siren sounds it is the four points that are of paramount importance. At the end of the day - win, lose or draw – a big crowd will be a great result for football in general and both participating clubs.”

McMahon added that a big Essendon contingent at this weekend’s game would help the team in what shapes as a very difficult game.

“Our players will need every bit of support this Friday night – with any luck the Kangaroos could have built up the same win-loss record as ourselves so we have the job in front of us,” McMahon said. “These clubs have played some sensational games in recent years and there is no reason why this won’t be another. Who will ever forget last year’s comeback?”

McMahon also added that the Kangaroos performance in the AFL in the last decade had been extraordinary and that it was a record that Essendon Football Club aspired to match.
