Essendon forward Dean Rioli was tonight outed for three matches after being found guilty of eye gouging Sydney's Paul Williams. Rioli was charged by umpire Matthew James during the third quarter of Saturday night's match. Rioli pleaded not guilty to the charge claiming it was simply a wiping action as he tried to quickly get up from a pack after copping a knock to the groin. Umpire James however said he had clearly seen Rioli claw at the face of Williams and the tribunal agreed. Essendon will not appeal the sentence.
