Matthew Lloyd is keeping a close check on Fraser Gehrig in the battle for the Coleman Medal this season. Lloyd’s seven goals against Hawthorn today at the MCG pushes his tally up to 44 majors for the season, just six behind Gehrig. Lloyd had a busy day – not only did he kick a bag full, he also collected 17 possessions and took seven marks.

""It is always nice to get out there and kick goals - you would take seven anytime. It was great to have a good win like that,"" Lloyd said immediately after the game.

Uncharacteristically, Lloyd booted four of his seven goals from less than 10 metres out. Lloyd was pleased to take advantage of these opportunities so close to goal. The triple Coleman Medallist thanked the work of his midfielders for those close range shots at goal.

""I think a lot of it had to do with reading the play from the goal square. I probably don’t tend to get too many in close. I noticed Fraser Gehrig gets a fair few, so if we can move the ball in quickly like that, you will get a few more in close to goal,"" he said.

Lloyd said the team was determined to put in a four-quarter effort today after last week’s second half fade out against Fremantle. ""We have been criticised a fair bit during the week. A huge emphasis at half time was to go on with it in the second half, so it was good to have a 74-point win like that.""

St Kilda still to play tomorrow.
