Meanwhile scans have revealed Jason Winderlich sustained a fractured fibula in the early stages of last night's game against Geelong and he will miss the next six weeks. Winderlich limped from the ground in significant pain. Medical staff were hopeful scans would only reveal bruising but a fracture was detected.
Both injuries are serious blows to the Bombers with both Laycock and Winderlich showing genuine improvement in recent weeks. Laycock was among the Bombers best players against Geelong last night.
The Essendon injury list has grown to alarming proportions. Matthew Lloyd (hamstring), Adam Ramanauskas, Aaron Henneman and rookie Lachlan McKinnon have already been ruled out for the season.
James Hird and Scott Camporeale are still sidelined with hamstring injuries while Dean Rioli will be sidelined for another two months having undergone further knee surgery recently.
Kepler Bradley (ankle), Jobe Watson (corked knee), Richard Cole (hamstring) and Paddy Ryder (hamstring) have also been sidelined in recent weeks while Henry Slattery and Andrew Lovett have been suspended.
