Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Natasha Hardy as VFLW senior coach for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
A familiar face at the NEC Hangar, Hardy will take on the senior coaching position alongside a new role as development coach within the Club’s AFLW program.
The appointment marks another chapter in Hardy’s long-standing connection with the red and black, having represented the Bombers as both a player and coach.
Hardy was Essendon’s inaugural VFLW vice-captain in 2018 before transitioning into coaching with the Club’s VFLW program.
She went on to gain valuable experience as a line coach with the Calder Cannons in the Talent League, an AFLW assistant coach (forwards) at North Melbourne for two seasons, before returning to Essendon ahead of the Club’s inaugural AFLW season in 2022.
Since returning, Hardy has been an important member of the Bombers’ AFLW coaching group, serving as backline coach for the first four seasons, before taking control of the midfield group this season.
Her new dual role across the 2027 and 2028 seasons will further strengthen the connection between Essendon’s VFLW and AFLW programs, providing continuity in player development and supporting the pathway for emerging talent.
Hardy said she was excited to take on the senior coaching position and continue contributing to the Club’s women’s football program.
“I’m incredibly excited to lead the VFLW program in 2027. Essendon has been a huge part of my football journey, first as a player and then as a coach, so this opportunity means a lot to me,” Hardy said.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with the playing group, helping players develop their game and creating an environment where they can challenge themselves and reach their potential.
“Being able to continue working within the AFLW program as well is a great opportunity to strengthen the connection between both groups and support the next generation of Bombers.”
Head of AFLW Operations and VFLW Georgia Harvey said Hardy’s experience, connection to the Club and passion for player development made her an ideal appointment.
“Tash has a strong understanding of our program and what it takes to develop players at this level. Her experience across both the VFLW and AFLW programs will be a real asset as we continue to build our pathway,” Harvey said.
“She knows the Club, understands the standards we want to uphold and has a genuine passion for helping players improve. We’re excited to see her lead the group in 2027 while continuing to play an important role in our AFLW program.”
With Hardy at the helm for the next two seasons, the Bombers will look to continue strengthening their women’s football pathway and developing the next generation of Essendon talent.
Our 2027 VFLW coaching panel will be finalised and announced soon.
