Last week, The Bombers proudly took part in NAIDOC Week celebrations, recognising the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year, and serves as an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

The Bombers’ organisation engaged in several activities throughout the week, including all staff being involved in the NAIDOC Virtual Run at the NEC Hangar on Tuesday.

Simultaneously, the Garbutt Bombers, an Indigenous team from Townsville visited Melbourne during NAIDOC week on a youth tour and played on the NEC Hangar against Penola Catholic College.

The Club’s proud community partner, The Long Walk, also hosted a Little Long Walk locally at Essendon Fields last Thursday morning,

‘The Long Walk’ is a charity inspired by Michael Long’s walk to Canberra to highlight the lives of Indigenous Australians, and reinstate the Indigenous people’s plight back on the National Agenda.

The Club’s Wheelchair Football team (VWFL) will also participate in NAIDOC Round on the 14th of July which will include a gift exchange.
