A proud Muthi Muthi/Gunditjmara woman, Egan told FOX Footy her experiences both within football circles and across the Indigenous community have confirmed her love of coaching.

“[My coaching role] is my passion. I’ve been working within the Aboriginal health and mental health space for quite a while, so I’m across the whole playing group, building relationships and supporting their development,” Egan said.

Egan’s career has ranged from football coaching roles within Vic Metro’s U18 Women’s program and the Calder Cannons, to working within the mental health sector through North Western Mental Health in Melbourne and Headpsace NT.

Currently balancing her Essendon role alongside a newly created position as the club’s AFL Indigenous Player Development Manager, Egan has been embracing the duality this season has provided for her.

"Its a season of firsts and that's exciting, it's the first time the afl has had these roles across all clubs so it's evolving  but first and foremost, we work with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players to make sure that our mob can come into this space, feel part of Essendon, and feel culturally safe,” Egan said.

Egan’s Bombers outfit will be looking to build upon their great form so far this season, taking on Richmond in the AFLW’s Indigenous Round this Sunday in a significant event for the club.

The excitement for the upcoming round is palpable, with Egan citing the celebratory nature of the weekend as a marquee of pride for her family and the wider Indigenous community.

“I know my culture is beautiful, and I know my culture has a lot to offer society. It’s moments like Indigenous Round that bring us together, and it’s a time where we just celebrate,” Egan said.

Ahead of what shapes to be a massive occasion, Egan was also full of praise for the growing connectivity amongst the playing group after a promising start to their inaugural season.

“We’re building on some great foundations, working on our relationships, and learning how each other plays – what that looks like on field and off the field,”, Egan said.

“This is a once in a lifetime experience for all of our girls and everyone involved in this program.”
