Essendon assistant coach Robert Shaw believes it is the mid-field flood rather than the defensive flood that is the biggest problem with today's game. In his latest Engine Room Column ""For Shaw and Certain"", Shaw looks at the reasons behind the mid-field flood and the fact that the six-man forward line is fast becoming a thing of the past. He also says the mid-field flood is one of the reasons that the great one-on-one contests of days gone by are rarely seen in today's environment.
