Alwyn Davey Jnr, son of former Bomber Alwyn Davey, will make his debut against Hawthorn on Sunday at the MCG.

In a special moment for Davey Jnr, he was told of his debut by twin brother Jayden, who was also selected by the Bombers in the 2022 Draft with pick No. 54.

The Davey boys attended Essendon Primary School, located opposite the Bombers’ spiritual home, Windy Hill, while their dad played for Essendon.

Both brothers, who have spent time around the club since they were young were overcome with emotion to finally see one of them run out for their beloved Bombers.

The Bombers selected Davey Jnr in last year’s draft, using their father-son rights to secure the forward with pick No.45.

In a remarkable story, Davey Snr only just passed the 100-game mark, for his sons to qualify for the selection criteria.

Caretaker coach Simon Goodwin at the time – now the Melbourne Premiership coach – played Davey in the final game of the season, with the forward finishing his career on the exact milestone of 100 games.

Both Davey brothers are products of Essendon’s James Hird Academy, where potential father-son selections have the opportunity to train with the club throughout their junior years.
