Jetta had some groin soreness late in the game and he faces a race against time to be for the Anzac Day, Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy virtually ruling him out immediately after the match.
Sheedy also said David Hille had a bruised chest but expected he would be available for Wednesday’s game. Hille copped a bump late in the second quarter and spent the second half of the match on the bench.
Essendon players did an intensive pool session following last night’s game and spent time this morning at Williamstown Beach.
But it may not simply be injury that dictates changes to the Essendon side. The Bombers’ match committee may opt to bring fresh legs into the side for the home and away season’s biggest game.
Nathan Lovett-Murray (groin), Jason Winderlich (hamstring) and Andrew Welsh (hamstring) will face fitness tests this week and may come back into the side. A number of players in today’s Bendigo game at Windy Hill will also come into contention.
Scott Camporeale, Jason Johnson, Kepler Bradley, Mark Bolton and Scott Gumbelton will come into contention. Youngster Courtenay Dempsey will also come into contention. First-year player Tom Hislop may be the selection smoky, he played well in his first game for Bendigo last weekend and Sheedy has a habit of playing first gamers on Anzac Day.
