Essendon defender David Myers will miss the next month of football after scans today revealed a minor fracture to his wrist.
General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton told Bomber.tv that the 21-year-old would require surgery to insert a pin in his scaphoid.
“David will require an operation and he will unfortunately be out for the next four weeks as a result of it,” Hamilton said.
“It’s obviously very disappointing for David because he has had a really good start to the year following a solid pre-season.”
Hamilton said veteran ruckman David Hille is also unlikely to be available for this week’s clash with the Saints after struggling to overcome a minor hip complaint.
Small forward Angus Monfries could be a chance to play this week after making progress from a groin injury that kept him out of the Sydney match on Sunday.
“Angus has got an abductor concern and was pretty sore last week so we couldn’t look at playing him against the Swans. He’s a chance for this week but at this stage it is probably still 50/50,” Hamilton said.
Essendon midfielder Heath Hocking believes the Bombers will learn a lot from yesterday’s five point loss to Sydney at ANZ Stadium. Hocking told BomberTV there were a number of areas the team will look to improve this week against St Kilda.
