Veteran defender Dustin Fletcher has been handed a two game sanction after the Match Review Panel ruled that he kneed Hawthorn's Beau Muston in the first quarter of Friday night's loss.
 
Due to his previous poor record, the 35-year-old cannot reduce the sanction with an early plea.
 
 
The news is a double blow for the Bombers with young defender Tayte Pears ruled out for the next eight weeks with a pancreas injury. 
 
The AFL today advised the Match Review Panel has reviewed the weekend’s matches. The following charges were laid:

Dustin Fletcher, Essendon, has been charged with a Level Two misconduct offence in that he kneed Beau Muston, Hawthorn, during the first quarter of the Round 13 match between Essendon and Hawthorn, played at the MCG on Friday June 18, 2010.

 

In summary, his previous poor record means that his two-game sanction must remain at two games, even with an early plea.

 

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of two matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 20 per cent to 270 demerit points. He also has 37.50 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 307.50 points and a three-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 230.63 points and a two-match sanction.

A first offence for making reckless contact with an umpire is a $2600 sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a $1950 sanction.

 

Kepler Bradley, Fremantle, has been charged with a Level One striking offence against Bret Thornton, Carlton, during the third quarter of the round 13 match between Fremantle and Carlton, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday June 19, 2010.

 

In summary, his previous good record means he can accept a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record with an early plea.

 

The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand. He has an existing five-year good record, which reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 60 points towards his future record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record.

 

Jarrad Waite, Carlton, has been charged with a Level Two engaging in rough conduct offence against Paul Duffield, Fremantle, during the fourth quarter of the Round 13 match between Carlton and Fremantle, played at Etihad Stadium on Saturday June 19, 2010.

 

In summary, his existing poor record means that his two-game sanction must remain at two games, even with an early plea.

 

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of three matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 30 per cent to 292.50 points. He also has 68.13 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 360.63 points and a three-match sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 270.47 points and a two-match sanction.

 

Other incidents assessed:

Contact between Carlton’s Chris Judd and Fremantle’s Matthew Pavlich from the third quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Contact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

 

Contact between North Melbourne’s Daniel Pratt and Port Adelaide’s Danny Meyer from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. Contact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

 

Contact between West Coast’s Beau Waters and the Western Bulldogs’ Jarrad Grant from the fourth quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said Waters was running in towards the marking contest, involving Grant and his West Coast opponent. After Grant has taken the mark, the Bulldogs’ player is pushed from behind into Waters, who is running in a continuous line. The contact was not deemed to be a reportable offence and no further action was taken.
 

The AFL Match Review Panel conducted an investigation into contact involving Essendon’s Jake Melksham and Hawthorn’s Chance Bateman from the fourth quarter of Friday’s match, played at the MCG. On the basis of interview evidence from player Bateman and player Melksham, along with available video evidence, it was determined there was no reportable offence involved in the contact between the two players.

Michael is due to participate in his 800th official game as a player and coach this week, comprising 53 games as a player with St Kilda, 121 games as a player with Richmond, 135 games as a coach with Footscray, 243 games as a coach with West Coast and 247 games as a coach with Collingwood. He will become the third man in the history of the game to reach this mark. 2010 NAB AFL UNDER 18 CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

The 2010 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships are now underway. For preview and review coverage of all NAB AFL Under 18 Championship matches visit www.afl.com.au/u18s.

To allow for a greater exposure of elite young players, all teams will play five matches. Teams in Division One will play all three other Division One sides, along with two of the four sides from Division Two. Teams in Division Two will play all three other Division Two sides, along with two of the four sides from Division One. LONG-TERM INJURY LIST

 

The AFL wishes to advise the following recent changes have been made to club lists, under the provision of the long-term injury-list rules:

Fremantle – Placed Scott Thornton on the long-term injury list, with no replacement named at this stage.

Melbourne – Upgraded Liam Jurrah to senior list from the long-term injury list, and returned Jordie McKenzie to the rookie list.

West Coast – Upgraded Andrew Strijk from the rookie list as the replacement for Jordan Jones, who was already on the long-term injury list.

2010 NAB AFL DRAFT / TRADING PERIOD – KEY DATES

 

The AFL wishes to advise the key dates have been finalised for the 2010 NAB AFL Draft and trading period. The Draft will be held at the Gold Coast convention centre as an evening function on Thursday November 18 with other key dates under the AFL Rules in the process as follows. Please note that the Gold Coast FC and Team GWS specific dates outlined below indicated the final cut-off point for each relevant rule. Player names lodged with the AFL prior to this date will be announced progressively:

 

Friday October 1, 2pm – Father Son Nominations lodged with the AFL.

Monday October 4, 10am – Father/Son Bidding Meeting (Gold Coast FC not entitled to participate).

NOMINATED ROOKIES – MID SEASON

 

Under AFL Rule 21.11.1, Clubs may nominate one player from their rookie list as being available for selection at any time after the conclusion of Round 11 and before 2pm on the Tuesday after Round 22. The club’s ability to nominate a rookie under this rule is subject to meeting TPP requirements.

Richmond upgraded David Gourdis to its senior list as a mid-year rookie in the lead-up to round 13.
