Essendon has succumbed to Williamstown by six points in a tight VFL affair on Friday night.

The Bombers looked impressive in bursts under the lights at DSV Stadium, repeatedly answering the Seagulls’ momentum and even regaining the lead late in the final term, before Williamstown responded at the 25-minute mark.

Despite pressing into the dying stages and verging on a decisive score, the Dons found themselves unable to land the final blow, with Williamstown ultimately holding on for the win.

There will still be plenty of positive takeaways from the defeat for the Bombers, who are enjoying an improved month under some strong individual performers.

Massimo D’Ambrosio’s willingness to attack from the back half was notable throughout, finishing with 28 disposals in a well-rounded effort.

Rhett Montgomerie’s aerial presence was on display again, while Sam Weideman looked comfortable across the back six with 13 marks and 24 disposals.

Pat Voss provided a threat up front with two goals and five tackles, and Elijah Tsatas built upon his consistent VFL form with 23 disposals, seven tackles, and seven clearances.
