The Bombers' finals race appears over following a 19-point loss to Melbourne at the MCG.

Assistant coach Gary O'Donnell said a poor defensive first half hurt the side badly.
""We were not good enough defensively in the first half,"" he said.
""They had about 50 uncontested marks and that is too many to have against us. We didn't have the desperation around the ground to stop them.
""Our coverage of our opponents was not good enough and Mebourne kept spotting each other up.
""Also we were not good going forward, especially our last disposal into the forward 50. We were able to get eight more inside 50s than them, which has not been happening in the last four or five weeks, but our ability to use it and think our way through it was poor.""
Leroy Jetta, Essendon, has been charged with a Level Two misconduct offence in that he made unreasonable and unnecessary contact to the face of James Frawley, Melbourne, during the first quarter of the Round 15 match between Essendon and Melbourne, played at the MCG on Sunday July 11, 2010. In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.
