Essendon will go to the week off in good spirits after a comfortable 49-point victory over Adelaide at Colonial Stadium. The contest was tight until half-time, but the Bombers blew the Crows off the park in the second half and ran away to an easy win. Matthew Lloyd kicked six, including his 400th career goal, and the Johnson boys, Sean Wellman and Damien Peverill all played terrific games.
Just two short months ago the match-up of Damien Peverill and Andrew McLeod would have been seen as a David v Goliath battle. Even now there is no doubt that Peverill will have his hands full with McLeod at Colonial Stadium tonight. But it isn't the mis-match some would have envisaged eight weeks ago. This will in all likelihood be Peverill's final senior appearance in 2001 before he returns to the rookie list. But he has been sensational in his time in the Essendon senior side and he will be keen to go out on a high note - McLeod will have other ideas.
