Bomber veteran Mark McVeigh will spend a third night in hospital under observation however his condition is improving by the hour.
The 29-year-old was admitted to hospital late on Sunday night after a small cut on his arm became infected. The infection flared up during the club’s game against Fremantle.
Matthew Knights told Bomber.tv this morning that McVeigh’s condition is being closely monitored but he had improved overnight.
“He was struggling a little and the fever was up, but it has started to come down which is great,” Knights said.
“He’s still in recovery mode and will remain in hospital until he feels good enough to come out.”
The club is still unsure as to whether the 189-game veteran will be available for Saturday night’s clash with Carlton.
“It’s tough to say at the moment – if he stays in hospital for another day or two it will probably be unlikely that he plays, but if he gets out this afternoon then we’ll have a look at it,” Knights said.
“We are going to monitor him over the next 24 hours and then make a decision with regards to Saturday night’s fixture.
“It’s obviously not ideal preparation for the week ahead so let’s hope he recovers sooner rather than later so that he can get moving again.”
