Midfielder Heath Hocking says last weekend's cancelled game in Wangaratta has not set back Essendon in its preparation for round one.

The Bombers had to cancel their first full-length NAB Cup hit out when their light planes were unable to land in the flooded northern Victorian town on Saturday afternoon.

After missing out on playing, Essendon completed an intense training session in Melbourne on Sunday morning.

Hocking, who wasn't in last week's team as he recovered from ""a slight knee aggravation"", said the Bombers weren't affected by the drama.

""We're elite athletes, so we've got to prepare for everything,"" he said on Thursday.

""We just trained hard on Sunday morning and then had a pretty normal week.

""We're going to go into this week and start practising what we've learnt over the pre-season and see how it all goes, and start preparing for round one.

""But I wouldn't say that we're back any further than what we have been if we played.""

Along with Hocking, the Bombers have added Michael Hurley and Jason Winderlich to their squad to face the Swans.

Hocking said Winderlich, in his first game back from a knee reconstruction, would aim to get through a half.
