Saad El-Hawli will remain a Don in 2026.

The 24-year-old earns a one-year extension after impressing in his exposure at senior level to date, tallying the first five AFL games of his career this season prior to an injury setback in June.

Selected at pick No.13 in the 2024 Mid-Season Draft, El-Hawli’s versatility and scope for growth have stood out across his two seasons at the Club, where he’s developed into a solid wing prospect.

El-Hawli notched up an exciting league debut as the sub in round three against Port Adelaide and posted a career-high 21 disposals in his round nine effort against the Swans, slotting his first AFL goal.

On the verge of returning from a hamstring injury, El-Hawli’s proud of his journey so far and grateful for the faith the Dons have shown in him as he signs for another season.

"I'm just extremely grateful for the opportunity that Essendon has given me and I can't wait to prove myself in this coming year as well," El-Hawli said.

"There's plenty of footy left to go even in this season and I'm keen to put my best foot forward, hopefully crack into the team and get some positive momentum going.

"It's not just a dream for me to be out here, it's also a dream for my family. The Bomber army have been amazing in embracing us, and it definitely gives me extra confidence and motivation when I hear them out there."

El-Hawli’s re-signing comes following the announcement of another key extension for the Club, with Nate Caddy also signing on until the end of 2028.

"'Saady' has such a great appetite to learn and we're excited to have him extend to 2026," Essendon GM - List and Recruiting Matt Rosa said.

"At 24 years of age, he still has plenty of development and growth left in his game and has already shown great signs to date. We're really keen to see him continue to develop within our AFL program."

The Dons return to action after the bye when they face Gold Coast in the Club’s second ever Community Game at Marvel Stadium this Saturday.
