Zach Reid and Jye Caldwell will both undergo surgery this week to repair respective hamstring and syndesmosis injuries.

After experiencing some hamstring awareness towards the end of last Wednesday’s main training session, follow-up scans confirmed a minor strain for Reid.

A surgical consultation was conducted and it was determined that surgery on the injured hamstring would be the best course of action. Reid will miss the remainder of the 2025 season as a result of the surgery.

Off the back of a breakout first half of the season that saw Reid emerge as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in the game - and with a recent three-year contract extension - the Club's GM - AFL Daniel McPherson is disappointed about the latest setback for Reid but confident in what the future holds for him.

"It's a tough blow for ‘Reidy’ to be ruled out for the year. However, we believe the surgical option offers him the best chance for a full recovery,” McPherson said.

“He's demonstrated exactly why he's so highly rated during the first 11 games this season. He remains a key part of our future.

"We eagerly anticipate his return to a full pre-season and a big year ahead in 2026."

Caldwell suffered his syndesmosis injury late in the fourth term of Saturday’s game against the SUNS, where his ankle was caught beneath him in a tackle.

With scan results on Sunday confirming the full extent of his injury, the 24-year-old will have surgery in the coming days – a return-to-play timeline is yet to be determined.

“It’s a frustrating setback for ‘Calders’ and the club – he’d been playing some terrific footy for us this season,” McPherson said.

“We’ll have a better idea of his recovery timeframe once he’s had surgery this week. He’s a total professional, so he’ll attack his rehab in the coming weeks and we’re looking forward to seeing him back out on the park towards the back end of the season.”
