The 150-game milestone is in clear sight for Peter Wright, with the achievement set to be reached on Friday night against the Saints.
‘Two-metre Peter’ has enjoyed some brilliant moments across his time with the Dons, including some huge hauls of goals and impressive individual silverware.
Wright’s footy life first blossomed at the Calder Cannons, where the 203cm forward’s advantageous height, elite penetrating kicking and marking ability paved the way to the big stage.
Wright was drafted to the Gold Coast Suns at pick No.8 in the 2014 National Draft, where he quickly became a regular starter for the Suns. Wright earned an AFL Rising Star nomination in 2016, and a spot in the 22Under22 squad in 2017.
Traded to Essendon during the 2020 draft period, Wright became a pivotal player in the sash from the get-go.
In his first year at the Dons, Wright had a career-high night against the Dogs in Round 21, booting a memorable seven goals in a stellar win that helped secure a finals spot that season.
Reflective of his big impact as the Bombers’ No.1 forward the following year, Wright took home Essendon’s coveted Crichton Medal in 2022 and the Matthew Lloyd Leading Goal Kicker Award.
Fast-forward to 2025, due to a high-grade ankle ligament injury just days before opening round, Wright missed the first five games of the season.
However, there was no messing around upon his return. Wright bagged six goals against the Eagles in round six, making him the night’s top goalkicker in a hard-fought win out West.
The key forward has been an important figure this year, often reliable up forward and playing a selfless role in assistance of the fresh faces who have debuted alongside him.
A loveable character both amongst the squad and Bomber faithful, the Dons will be hoping to secure a win for Wright under lights on Friday night.
