Sophie Van De Heuvel will miss the remainder of the 2025 AFLW Season after injuring her knee in the Round 2 vs. West Coast Eagles match on Sunday at Windy Hill.
The injury occurred to Van De Heuvel early in the second quarter after she was chased down in a tackle by the opposition.
Scans confirmed on Monday morning that the defender suffered a PCL injury to her left knee, which is the opposite knee to her PCL strain in 2024.
Head of Medical Services Megan Smith said the playing group and staff were disappointed for Van De Heuvel, especially after her injury setback last season.
“We are all shattered that this injury has happened to Sophie again. She showed amazing form in the 2025 pre-season and has worked extremely hard to get back to match-play after her PCL injury in 2024,” Smith said.
“We know Sophie will work extremely hard across her rehab and recovery to come back stronger and better than ever, and we will all continue to support her over the coming months.”
The Club will provide updates on Van De Heuvel’s rehab and recovery in the coming weeks.
