Georgia Gee and Sophie Alexander are on the cusp of reaching their 75-game milestones, with the pair set to tick off the big achievement at this Saturday’s clash against Hawthorn at Essendon’s spiritual home, Windy Hill.

A vital pillar of the Bombers’ forward line, Alexander, better known by her teammates as ‘Magic’, started her younger sporting career playing Basketball for the Ballarat Rush, but sparked an interest in football in 2016.

Alexander played in the Victorian Women’s Football League for six games with Redan Football Club, whilst continuing to pursue basketball with the Horsham Lady Hornets.

The following year saw the versatile athlete play 13 games for the Eastern Devils in the VFLW, where her long-range kicking ability and natural footy smarts scored her a spot on Collingwood’s VFLW side. Alexander was later named in the VFLW Team of the Year on the interchange bench.

Drafted in 2018 to Collingwood, Alexander spent four years in the Pies AFLW side where she further developed her versatility and leadership, later to join the Dons in their inaugural year in 2022.

Since then, Alexander has solidified herself as a one of Essendon’s most reliable and prominent players. A true cultural driver and all-round role model, the forward has had one of her most influential seasons to date, bagging seven goals so far, an AFLW career season high.

Another valued member of the Dons’ forward line, Gee pulled on the footy boots at a very young age. The then-aspiring footballer began her journey at Beaconsfield Football Club in the Under 11s.

Quickly unveiling her speed, skill and natural football instincts in her junior years, Gee was later guided to the Dandenong Stingrays where she represented the side in the TAC Cup Girls competition.

In 2014, the forward played in the Women’s Under-18 Championships for VIC Metro at the age of 14, and after a year off from state football, Gee returned in 2016 and continued to play for VIC Metro/Country for two years.

Like many footballers, the road to the elite level is rarely an easy one, especially when dealing with external noise and pressure, but Gee turned the noise into inspiration. She worked hard, built her craft and proved her worth during her junior years, ultimately resulting in an extremely successful AFLW career thus far.

Drafted to the league by Carlton with their first selection as pick No. 12, Gee made her AFLW debut in 2018. During her time at the Blues, she achieved an AFLW Rising Star nomination in 2019 and was named in the 2020 22under22 squad.

Gee committed to the Dons in their inaugural year and has since become an integral player within the forward line. Gee brings high-intensity efforts while staying composed, and offers undeniable goal kicking accuracy, making her an incredibly valued Don on and off the field.
