Essendon Football Club President Andrew Welsh has paid tribute to Club Director Andrew Muir, who today resigned from the Board after 11 years of service.
Muir joined the Essendon Board during one of the most challenging periods in the Club's history and has been instrumental in guiding the organisation through significant change and growth.
"Andrew joined the Board at a time of great need for the Club, following one of the most difficult periods in our history," Welsh said.
"His strong governance lens helped guide the Club through that challenging time, and we came out of it stronger because of his commitment and perseverance."
Welsh said Muir's focus on people development was one of his most enduring contributions to the Club.
"Throughout his tenure, his focus on developing our staff and coaches has benefitted so many people across his time on the Board," he said.
"That mindset has left a lasting impact on the Club and will continue to be felt for years to come."
Welsh also acknowledged Muir's persistent commitment to excellence across all areas of the Club.
"I have always admired his commitment to wanting the Club to be great in all aspects and how he has challenged us to be excellent," Welsh said.
"His high standards have pushed us to be better, and the Club is in a better position because of this mindset."
Beyond his Board role, Muir has been a significant contributor to Essendon, with his support playing a crucial role in the funding and naming of "The Hangar" and now known as the NEC Hangar.
"Andrew has been a very generous supporter of the Club with a particular focus on the development of our training facility. He is also responsible for the naming of ‘The Hangar’, which will live on in perpetuity in his honour."
"The fact that he has never sought publicity for that generosity is a testament to his character."
While Muir’s role on the Board has concluded, Welsh said the Club looked forward to seeing him around the Club in the future.
"While Andrew has called time on his role on the Board, on behalf of everyone at the Club, I want to thank Andrew and we look forward to his continued presence at the Club in the years to come."
