Essendon youngster Jacob Farrow’s flying start to his debut campaign has been rewarded with a Telstra Rising Star nomination for Gather Round.

The sheer poise of the 18-year-old defender was palpable in the Club’s drought breaking 45-point rout of the Demons on Saturday – he finished with 22 disposals at 82 per cent efficiency in a composed performance from the back half.

Just three games into his career, the Western Australian already looks every bit of an established AFL footballer with his assured decision making and a raking left foot to boot.

Farrow follows in the footsteps of another starring Don from the weekend in Archie Roberts, who also earned a nomination for his efforts in the corresponding fixture last season.

“It is a huge honour to be named the Rising Star. I’ve just been focused on playing my role and doing my best, so to get this recognition is special,” Farrow said.

“I’m loving every minute of being out there with the boys, and the support from the coaches and staff have been unreal since joining the Club last year.

“There is still a lot I want to work on in my game, but this gives me confidence to keep building and hopefully contribute to more wins for the Bomber fans.”

Farrow found out the news from Roberts at the NEC Hangar on Monday morning, the young Dons coming together as they push onto a matchup with Gold Coast interstate this week.

In addition to Roberts, Farrow also joins Nate Caddy, Isaac Kako and Angus Clarke as recent nominations in red and black.

He’ll now be in the running for the overall award at year’s end.
