Sullivan Robey has claimed the Telstra Rising Star nomination for round nine after his dynamic 20-disposal performance against the GIANTS.

Five games into his debut season, last year’s pick No.9 has been piecing it together at the highest level especially in the last fortnight, where he’s produced his two best outings to date.

Thrown into the on-ball rotation more frequently against Brisbane and GWS (13 centre bounce attendances in the latter), the powerful 18-year-old has thrown his weight around manfully against experienced midfields and hasn’t looked one bit out of place.

11 of his possessions on the weekend were contested, sending it inside 50 on six occasions and accumulating 19 pressure acts in a well-rounded effort.

Robey said he was thankful for the recognition after hearing the news in front of the entire playing group on Monday morning.

“I’m really proud to receive the Rising Star nomination for Round 9,” Robey said.

“We were out on the track earlier this morning and Andy announced it to the group, which was a pretty cool moment, and it was fun to have all the boys get around me.

“I’m loving my time at the Club is far. We’ve got an exciting group of young guys coming through, along with the senior players who help lead the way.

"There’s a strong belief in where we’re heading and I know more wins are on the way. Singing the song after my debut in Adelaide was an unreal feeling, and hopefully we can do it again very soon."

With Robey’s recognition, Essendon lead every side in the AFL for nominations (six total) since the beginning of 2025.

Robey is the second Don to receive a Telstra Rising Star nomination this year after Jacob Farrow in Gather Round.
